    Original Painting by Emily Magone

The intense forest fires this season brought tragedy upon thousands of people across Western America. Homes were lost, and lives were lost. Lessons were learned (we hope) about healthy forest management and the need to fund our National Forests in order to prevent such intense and raging infernos.
Those of us that have grown up in and around our forests understand this need, but unfortunately there are groups of people that do not. Some that think they are protecting the forests, and some at higher levels that simply don’t care about the forests at all. Ones that seem to forget how the oxygen they breathe is produced in the first place.
While this year’s fires were destructive beyond comprehension, there is always light to be found in even the darkest places. “Rebirth” was inspired by not only the visual splendor of this natural occurrence, but the inherent regeneration that comes with it. The hope that the scale of this preventable damage will spur action – legislatively and within ourselves. The understanding that things appear darkest just before the light, and that new growth can occur only after utter destruction.
“Rebirth” is a symbol of what you, and we, are capable of.

This piece. Where do I even begin. It has been living and breathing in my mind for so long now, I can’t believe it’s finally in physical form.

I took the picture that inspired this piece when we were home in NW Montana for our best friend’s wedding in August of 2012. Lake Koocanusa – or the Res if you’re local – is one of the most magical places on earth. And I’ve seen some epic nature on these travels.

When I witnessed the unexplainable beauty of Norway, I understood why our ancestors settled here. Nothing else they had seen across the North American continent would have come close to the beauty of their motherland, until they reached the mighty peaks and water bodies of NW Montana.

It took me a long time to realize how fortunate I was to grow up in such unspoiled surroundings.

Lucky for me, it has imprinted my soul and is the root of my inspiration.

This scene; lolling on a boat in the middle of the lake, dusk approaching, total silence but the water gently lapping at the boat and a few happy birds singing to each other… this is bliss.

Those moments of joy, peace, gratitude and oneness with nature. Remembering that we are OF nature and we ARE nature.

Those are the moments I paint.

Completing and sharing this particular piece with you feels like coming full circle.

I left my hometown thinking that my dream of being a full time artist would never actually happen. To pursue other things because I was meant to do other things.

But it just happened in a different way than I thought it would. And what an incredible journey it’s been so far.

This piece is culmination, it is ancestry, it is home, and it is gratitude in painting form.

Cheers to you, my sweet Montana. You are cherished and appreciated <3

I think many of us, women in particular, tend to put everything and everyone before our selves. Even though we know we can’t pour from an empty cup. And even though no one else is putting you first. Part of reaching back into ourselves is finding what brings us real pleasure, and purposefully making time for those things. Make your pleasure a priority, and it will bleed into the rest of your life in amazing ways. <3

Sometimes some shit happens in life that just CRUSHES you. Breaks you apart, destroys you…takes you to the darkest depths of yourself. Pain that grinds your psyche into a fine powder like a mortar and pestle and taking the air from your lungs, making you smile at things you previously thought painful. But everything is temporary, including pain and struggle. Change is inevitable, and it’s impossible to come back from such a place the same person you were before. But it’s important that you do come back. That you learn and grow from the pain and the experience, that it aligns you more closely with your Self and the life you’re here to create. We are in a constant state of evolution, individually and as a whole. Every experience, every trauma, every obstacle and every achievement takes us into the next level of ourselves.  2019 was a year of struggle and pain for many, myself included. Sometimes you can’t find light until you get to the darkest place – but when you do finally pull yourself out, the joy and relief cannot be understated.  Don’t beat up on yourself for struggling, and love yourself for what you’ve come through. Nothing is permanent, and your expansion is limitless – if you allow it to be. So let yourself evolve. Let yourself RENEW.

I make art that helps you realign with nature and your higher Self. Growing up in Northwest Montana, I was surrounded by mountains on all sides.
