When you walk in the front door of your home, what is the first feeling you have?  Does it give you anxiety because it’s not organized/decorated/arranged like you want?  Or do you get those tranquil feelings of relaxation, relief, and calm?

If you’re like many people, you look around a cluttered room and wonder what you can do right effing now to change the vibe.  Well, let me share a lil’ nugget with you about creating your own personal Zen Room!

This is a project that won’t take up a ton of your time, but the reward at the end will be immense!  Plus, you won’t mind the not-as-zen rooms of your home as much once you’ve built your perfectly personal dream space..

How to Create Your Own Personal Zen Room

1.) Choose Minimalism in This Space

While you may have clutter throughout many rooms in your home, your Zen room must be as minimalistic as possible.  This is not the place to store dozens of books, paperwork, or even extra furniture. I recommend only placing exactly what you need in your Zen room, so you’re not stressed or overwhelmed every time you enter.

2.) Choose Comfort

As amazing as a clutter-free space can be, you won’t want to spend much time in there if it’s not comfortable too!  Therefore, add a couple throw cushions, blankets, and maybe a rug if the room isn’t carpeted. One of my favorite and highly-recommended items is a weighted blanket. Get your comfort item of choice and include it in your Zen room as well.

3.) Enjoy Nature Inside

Do you love walking around outside or simply sitting in a garden surrounded by flowers and lush greenery?  If so, make sure you add a little nature inside your Zen room. A few plants and a fountain will have you feeling relaxed in no time at all.

4.) Choose Your Lighting Carefully

As you’re relaxing in your Zen room, you won’t want to sit underneath bright, harsh lights.  While a bright light in this space may be necessary on occasion, I recommend leaving it off and using tealights, candles, or a salt crystal lamp.  If you don’t like the fixture or bulbs in the room, swap them out for something softer. If you want to avoid lighting altogether, try to create your Zen room in a space that gets tons of natural light.

5.) Calm Down with Aromatherapy

There are many different essential oils out on the market, as well as essential oil diffusers.  While you may think you can simply add any type of oil and call it a day, I can tell you that lavender and frankincense are two of the best options for chilling your ass out.  Oh, and if you don’t want to mess with essential oils, you can choose a scented candle or a pretty wax melter to create aromatherapy and light all in one!

These are five things that every Zen room needs, so make sure you use this list when you’re creating yours!  While you can easily create this space in a day, you can always add one item at a time until it feels perfect to you. 😉
